Our priorities in working with Austria

Following are the current objectives of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in its work with Austria.

The FCO works with Austria to:

  • deliver a more open and competitive European economy
  • participate positively in a genuinely wide-ranging debate on EU budget review
  • respond effectively to challenges in the near neighbourhood, including stability and growth in the Balkans and Turkish EU accession
  • work for sustainability, openness and security in the wider world
  • support the EU Justice and Home Affairs machinery in tackling crime and terrorism, take effective action to disrupt terrorist networks in or connected to Austria, and meet all European Union and United Nations counter terrorism obligations
  • push for a rigorous implementation of the 2007 Spring Council climate and energy targets and work positively for an ambitious post-2012 international agreement on climate change.  

Service Delivery:

  • we aim to help British companies win business in Austria and with the Vienna based international agencies
  • we want to promote high level, good quality foreign direct investment (FDI) and enhance the UK's reputation as the international business partner of choice
  • We aim to offer a high level of consular support to British nationals throughout Austria.

Whitehall Partner Objectives:

  • promote UK policy and views on defence and security policy
  • effective regulation of entry to, and settlement in, the UK by third country nationals resident in Austria, in the interests of sustainable growth and social inclusion.
