With effect from 2 June 2009, all British passport telephone enquiries will be handled by Careline Call Centre Services at +44 208 082 4724. If you are a British passport applicant in Austria and are unable to obtain the passport information you require from the passports section of this website, you can contact the Passport Information Helpline for assistance. For applicants in Austria, please call +44 208 082 4724 between the hours of 9:00 Monday to 18:00 local time Friday (24 hours service). Calls will be charged at GBP 0.69 per minute for the duration of the call (telephone service providers will also charge for the cost of the international call). Please ensure you have your credit card details ready before calling.

For customers with hearing difficulties, a Textphone service is available by contacting +44 1750 725368. This is a credit card payment service, charged at the same rates as above.

Please note the British Embassy in Vienna are unable to answer any passport queries sent by email or fax.

Alternatively you can visit the consular section in person, the opening hours for the public are from 09:15-12:30 and 14:00-15:45 Monday to Friday, except on public holidays. Access to Consular Section and Visa Section

Please note that the following personal safety and security rules apply when visiting Consular and Visa Sections:

Due to space limitations, entrance to Consular and Visa Sections is limited to strictly one person per application or group application, for both visa and consular/passport services. Other family members and friends are not permitted entry unless there are compelling or compassionate reasons or when there is a need for an interpreter for a third language i.e. the applicant does not speak English or German.

Because of security and safety considerations, no luggage or large bags are allowed into the Consular and Visa Sections. Furthermore, briefcases and handbags are subject to inspections. Please note that all electrical devices, laptops, mobile phones and cameras etc are strictly prohibited inside Embassy premises.

Children under 14 years are allowed admittance with a responsible adult e.g. parent or guardian. For visa applicants, if the child is under the age of 18 years, travels alone and the parent or legal guardian does not provide written consent to the application, the application will be refused.

 

Embassy location

The British Embassy offices and Residence of Her Majesty's Ambassador are located in Vienna's 3rd district. The main Embassy building is situated at Jaurèsgasse 12, on the corner of Jaurèsgasse and Salesianergasse. This building houses the Management, Trade & Investment, Press & Public Affairs and Political (Chancery) Sections, as well as the UK Delegation to the OSCE and the UK Mission to the United Nations.

The Consular and Visa Sections are located next door at Jaurèsgasse 10, opposite the Anglican Church. The Ambassador's Residence is around the corner at Metternichgasse 6.

Please note that it can be difficult to find a parking space in this area. The 3rd district is a short-term parking zone (Kurzparkzone) for which pre-purchased tickets (Parkscheine) are required. These are available from tobacconists (Tabaktrafik) and Vienna transport offices, and allow parking for a maximum of 2 hours. You can also pay for parking via a mobile phone text message (sms); to register for this service please visit www.handyparken.at. Further information on parking in Vienna is available on the Vienna City Council parking rules website.

The Embassy can be reached by the following public transport lines: 71 tram (stop: Unteres Belvedere), the U4 underground (station: Stadtpark), the 4A bus (stop: am Modenapark), S1, S2, S3, S7, S15 S-Bahn / Rapid Transit trains (station: Rennweg). It is about 10 minutes walk from the Schwarzenbergplatz, which is adjacent to Vienna's central Ring-Strasse.
