Confirmation of police records

UK police records

In certain circumstances Austrian authorities may ask for a so-called "Strafregisterauszug" from the UK Authorities , in order to establish whether you do or do not have a criminal record in the UK. This is required if, for example, you are setting up a company in Austria, or to support job applications, secure residency status, secure visa extensions, open bank accounts, obtain visas for a third country, etc. To obtain confirmation on police records in the UK, you should contact the police constabulary of the county where you last lived in the UK. You can make your application using a "subject access form" which is available from the constabulary.

A list of constabularies and their websites can be found on the UK Police Force website, under the heading 'Police Forces'. Full details on how to make your application are available on local constabulary websites, on the Subject Access page, in the section Freedom of Information / Data Protection. Please note that a fee is charged for this service, and once the relevant constabulary has received your application, the process can take up to 40 days.

Austrian police records (Strafregisterauszug)

In Austria a criminal records certificate (so-called "Strafregisterbescheinigung" or "Strafregisterauszug") can be obtained by putting in an application in person at a local police authority (if abroad through the local Austrian Embassy). The relevant form can be obtained online under the following Austrian Government service web address which also contains all relevant information on procedure, required documents, fees, etc.(although only in German).

Please note that the Embassy's Consular Section and the regional Consulates are not / no longer able to provide British citizens resident in Austria with any form of letter in this connection !
